Is Rummy a Game of Skill or Luck?

One of the hottest debates in the online gaming world is whether the Rummy card game is a game of Skill or Luck.

In India, as soon as someone talks about playing card games for real money, the first thing that comes to the mind is whether it is legal or no?

While legality of the Rummy Game in India is governed by more than one factor, here we will talk about whether this card game is a game of skill or a game of chance.

I love playing the rummy card game and have played on sites like RummyCircle and Khelplay.

While I enjoy playing 13 cards rummy the most, I also like playing 21 and 27 cards rummy with my friends and family.

Now, the real question

Is Rummy a Game of Skill or Chance?

Here is what I think

Rummy is definitely a game of Skill

Then what is the role of chance in a game of Rummy?

Your skills are not involved in the first set of cards you get during the deal.

Imagine a scenario

There is a two players 13 cards rummy game

Player A gets a pure sequence and a joker in the first 13 cards that were dealt.

Player B neither gets a pure sequence nor a joker in the first 13 cards that were dealt.

In this particular scenario, player B might consider that the luck was not in his favor.

This is one other scenario that has to do something with Luck/Chance in a rummy game.

However, if the player B uses skill, then the player B can drop that game.

Another scenario of the Rummy game has the role of Luck.

Picking a card from the closed deck

You do not know which card will come when you pick up a card from the closed deck.

There is no skill involved to which card will come from the closed deck.

However, if you have to pick up the card from the closed deck or discard pile, it is something governed by your skill.

Conclusion

I firmly believe that a large part of the Rummy Card Game is based on Skill and hence, I would call Rummy a Game of Skill and not Luck or Chance.
